cranioCraniosacral Therapy (CST) is a subtle, yet powerful tool to help the nervous system balance and restore itself to optimal function. Based in cranial osteopathy, which manipulates the bones, membranes and fluids of the central nervous system, CST has been shown to alleviate symptoms of nervous system overwhelm, including headaches, digestive upset, chronic pain, insomnia, anxiety and more.

Biodynamic craniosacral therapy (BCST) is the latest evolution of the art and science of CST. Going beyond just the physical, BCST takes a holistic approach to identifying and optimizing health throughout your entire being – body, mind and spirit.

You are more than the sum of your parts; yet the sum of your life experience is reflected in your physical, mental and emotional body. When your system is overwhelmed by events, your body’s built-in security system may isolate the experiences until they can be fully processed and released. If held long enough, this compartmentalized life experience can be expressed by physical or emotional symptoms as listed above.

The good news is, our bodies are designed to be self-regulating, with the capacity to heal and to bring the system back into balance. In a BCST session, the practitioner and client function as a team to create a safe space where long held patterns of experience can be examined and resolved.

What conditions can BCST help?*
“Dis-ease” stems from an imbalance in the regular functioning of the body. BCST can be a powerful tool to help restore balance so can lessen or eliminate symptoms of chronic dis-ease. Clients have reported benefits such as:
•    Improved sleep
•    Improved mood / relief for depression
•    Decreased anxiety
•    Reduced stress
•    Balanced hormone function, including menopausal symptoms
•    Improved digestion
•    Improved immune response
•    Relief from migraines
•    Relief from spinal alignment and joint tension caused by scoliosis and TMJ
•    Reduced pain from chronic conditions such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, lupus and other systemic dis-ease
•    More rapid healing from injuries, such as whiplash or post-concussive syndrome
•    Lessening symptoms of PTSD, including tinnitus
•    Reduced severity of Lyme related symptoms, including those caused by Lyme coinfections
*It is important to note that BCST is NOT intended as a panacea in acute conditions. You should always consult your doctor as a first line of treatment if you are experiencing sudden onset of symptoms related to injury or disease.

What happens in a BCST session?
A BCST session is conducted fully clothed; the client lies on a massage table while the therapist gently contacts the nervous system at access points including the head and neck, tailbone, points along the spine, feet, or other strategic points on the body. The experience is gentle and soothing; often the client falls asleep, or otherwise drops into a deep state of relaxation.

When will I feel better?
Results are as individual as you are, but you may feel a difference after only one session. More likely, you will notice a marked improvement in symptoms after two or three sessions. In the case of deeply held trauma, such as PTSD, childhood abuse or other long-held patterns, the client may need more time to unravel and release the energetic fingerprint of the triggering events. In every case, the process is a collaboration between therapist and client, and work progresses only at the pace that is safe and comfortable for your nervous system.
